Overall Rating: 2 Stars

About Nerium:

“During advanced research on the uses of the Nerium oleander plant, an accidental discovery was made: the unique properties of Nerium oleander provided remarkable age-defying results when applied to the skin. This finding led to the formation of Nerium International and the creation of the NeriumAD skincare line.

Nerium scientists developed a breakthrough process, NBio-PL2, to derive an extract from the Nerium oleander plant in a way that preserves its unique and beneficial properties. This patented extraction process yields the NAE-8 extract, with powerful antioxidant properties, used to formulate the first-of-its-kind, age-defying Nerium product line.

Nerium International is the first company with the exclusive capability to harness the power of the Nerium oleander plant in its skincare products. The product line addresses multiple concerns at once, including: wrinkles, discoloration, and texture. Nerium controls this main active ingredient from seed to bottle, making the Nerium skincare line both high-impact and innovative. This is the Nerium Difference.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I have to be honest–I was very excited about this product. That excitement quickly fizzled out as I started to read the ingredient list. Nothing turns me off quicker than reading through a list of ingredients that are wildly unrecognizable.

Nerium provides a list of ingredients they do not use, which in theory is great. In reality, the ingredients that ARE in the product are not organic, nor do they appear to be plant based. Efforts to omit harmful ingredients are always a good thing, so I will credit Nerium for that.

There are certain things that I seek in a skin care product, and unfortunately this product does not have those characteristics. I wish I could earnestly say otherwise.

If I were to make statements based upon the performance of the product alone, I’d say that it does what it says it does: improves texture and tone of skin, at least temporarily. I used this night cream for 5 consecutive days, as recommended, and witnessed a slight positive change in my skin.

Truthfully, I believe I have been spoiled by entirely organic skin care products that, in a way, have  “ruined” me for products like this that fall short.

I’d have a harm time recommending this product to anyone because I could not defend most of the ingredients and why they are used. Those that want performance without regard for ingredients might be interested in this product.

  1. Yay Jesica!
I subscribed to your blog about 5 months ago and I am so happy you are discovering more and more organic and natural products. I like that you have added the star rating (and are rating based on your mission to find natural and organic ingredients) I have found quite a few gems because of you! I was a little skeptical of your blog at first (you are so so so nice to all the product distributors!) but then your honest reviews have won me over.

I am happy that you posted this review for Nerium. I to have tried Nerium and have seen results, but I just cannot get past the ingredients. The older I get (pushing 40!), the more I am not willing to compromise. My fear with Nerium and other similar products is that there will be some kind of future damage to our bodies.

I have moved from using commercial products to natural and organic and I am feeling great (physically and emotionally). Keep up the good work and congrats on getting married!

    1. Rachel,
I very much appreciate you sharing that. As I have blogged more and more, I learn more and more. I am an optimist but have to also consider that reviews should be blunt at times in order to help others the most. I feel good about the star rating system! It gives me a quick means to share how I rank the product in the big scheme of things.
Thank you for your support and following my posts. I hope you continue to get useful info from what I write!

  2. As we the consumer ask and desire more products that have clean ingredient lists, as well as recognizable, straightforward ingredient lists, we will find more of them. Thank you for helping us on that journey….even in the face of not taking the popular stand.

  3. Hello! I was researching these ingredients and was wondering which ones you specifically found to be non organic and harmful? Just because I’m trying to prove your point right but I’m finding different results.

    1. Hey Haleigh! Essentially I was not a fan of the fact that the ingredients were not plant compounds. They are mostly derivatives of who-knows-what. A great comparison is to look at a brand like OsmiaOrganics.com and compare the ingredient lists. I feel much better using products in which the ingredients are very pure and pronounceable. Hopefully this is helpful!
