A Realization

When I was a freshman in high school, my soccer coach pulled me aside at practice and said “Make no mistake, I appreciate how hard you work, but you’re making your teammates look bad because you are so severely out-working them.” I was in utter shock–perhaps that’s why I’ve never forgotten it. How shameful of a thing to say, as a coach. The reality is that many people still feel this way, I believe. If you outshine them, they are scared shitless and can’t deal with it. Thus, they try to shut you down (instead of improve themselves). Here’s my take away from this: Never let anyone’s opinion of you diminish your commitment to doing what’s right & what’s in line with your purpose in life. Never ever.
