2018 thus far has most definitely been a year of regaining my health and focusing less on my performance in the gym. Though it’s funny–I’m finding those two components are actually pretty tightly linked.
In November of 2017, I did a heavy metal + parasite detox protocol that lasted several months. You can read about whole that experience here! But, it makes sense that after doing a detox, you shouldn’t just completely stop supporting your body and its many purification pathways. This is where these three Life Extension products come in!
So thankful to have been contacted by this team so join heads and discuss how to spread some good knowledge + experience in regards to metabolic detoxification (which is a fancier way of essentially helping your body to run more efficiently, down to the cellular level.)
Metabolic Detoxification Maintenance Protocol
SAMe helps maintain stable mood and joint function without side effects. In addition, SAMe has multiple mechanisms of action that are used throughout the body, especially in the liver, which help maintain liver health. Largely known for its effects on optimal mood, SAMe has also shown benefits for the liver, brain, and joints.
Benefits at a glance:
- Helps maintain stable mood
- Helps maintain liver health
- Helps maintain healthy joint function
Life Extension® first introduced SAMe (S-Adenosyl-Methionine) in 1997, and researchers continue to discover impressive benefits of this versatile nutrient.
SAMe is an amino acid derivative normally synthesized in the body that may become depleted with sickness or age. Supplementing with SAMe plus folate, trimethylglycine (TMG or betaine), vitamins B6 and B12 appears to be an effective way to overcome this deficiency.
SAMe is concentrated in the liver and brain and is a major methyl donor in the synthesis of hormones, nucleic acids, proteins, and phospholipids, and catecholamines and other neurotransmitters. SAMe is required for the synthesis of norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin.1-3 SAMe facilitates glutathione4,5 usage, which improves the body’s antioxidant defense. It also helps maintain acetylcholine levels6,7 which are necessary for cognitive function.
SAMe is used by the body in three important pathways:
- Methylation (contributing methyl groups to activate certain molecules)8,9
- The synthesis of polyamines (for cell growth, gene expression, neuronal regeneration, etc.)10-13
- Trans-sulfuration (synthesis of cysteine, glutathione, and other sulfate chemicals)1,14,15
European Milk Thistle with Advanced Phospholipid Delivery is a potent weapon to support liver health. Milk thistle optimizes liver function and supports the body’s natural detoxification pathways and is safe for daily use.
Benefits at a Glance
- Promotes liver health
- Optimizes liver function and supports the body’ natural detoxification pathways
- Advanced phospholipid delivery system increases active compounds in the liver
- Provides standardized concentrations of silybin and isosilybin A and B not found in other milk thistle extracts
Powerfully Supports Liver Health
The active extract of milk thistle, called silymarin, is a mixture of flavonolignans, and includes silydianin, silychristin, and silybin, with silybin being the most biologically active.1
Silymarin has shown to be one of the most potent substances in promoting liver health. Its main benefits appear to be support of healthy DNA function, stabilization of plasma membranes, and stimulation of liver cells.2-6 It has also been shown to inhibit lipid peroxidation and inhibit glutathione depletion induced by liver toxins, even increasing total glutathione levels in the liver by 63% over controls.7
Artichoke Leaf Extract is made from the long, serrated basal leaves of the plant, which contain the highest concentration of biologically active compounds. These compounds have displayed the ability to maintain healthy digestion and liver function.1-9
Chlorogenic acid and cynarin are two of the active compounds found in this extract. Chlorogenic acid positively affects glucose levels in the body in those already within normal range and may support healthy body weight.10-13 The compound cynarin, which is found almost exclusively in artichokes, may support digestion and maintain cholesterol levels already within a healthy range.14-22
Those who may benefit from these natural compounds may want to add Artichoke Leaf Extract to their supplement regimen. Some people will take one capsule with meals that contain fat to facilitate digestion.
My focus with keeping up my body’s detoxified state is to supplement smart and eat mindfully + clean. I’ve been taking this trio as directed every day, and I feel like I’m reaching new heights of health, all things considered. That sounds corny, I get it–but actually FEELING GOOD is priceless and is reason to celebrate.
I’ve learned that long term health is a result of continuous and consistent commitment to putting good things into your body and living an active lifestyle (this doesn’t have to mean hours in the gym–the key is to break a sweat daily).
With boatloads of supplements out there, I get that it’s overwhelming to choose what’s right for you. In my case, I knew through visiting a Naturopath that my liver was burdened and needed some support. These 3 products are intended for that purpose, so it was a no brainer. It’s not about taking a bazillion supplements; it’s about supplementing smarter, not harder.
Detoxification is not just a buzz word; it’s a process that our body constantly undergoes to make sure all cylinders are firing off. Keep that in mind when you’re shopping for supplements. Everyone can benefit from supporting their liver, as it’s a key gatekeeper for hormone production, women’s health (+ menstrual cycles) and even plays a role in athletic performance.
I found these three products to work very well in combination with one another. Benefits I felt included clearer skin, overall increased energy as well as some fat loss, to boot.
Life Extension has a huge store full of products and it’s fun to shop around. They’re also active on social media, so hit them with a follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
