Tea Game on FLEEK: Teatulia Organic Neem + Tulsi + Black Tea Review

Teatulia Organic Tea

Overall Rating: 5-stars

About Teatulia:

“We are delighted to introduce our range of twenty organic Teatulia teas, each offering a unique flavor profile, with one or more that will satisfy every palate.

Our totally unique packaging communicates Teatulia’s sustainability message: compostable cannisters, labels made from post-consumer paper, water-based inks & dyes and biodegradable silken pyramids conveniently house our exquisite organic whole-leaf teas.

SINGLE-GARDEN DIRECT

All Teatulia Teas come directly to you from the first USDA-certified Organic tea garden in Bangladesh. No middleman, no long-term warehousing and no waiting around to be bulk-blended by a third-party trader. What does this mean to you? Fresh, delicious, single-garden purity.

MORE ORGANIC THAN ORGANIC

Teatulia’s mission is to sustain the land and the people while producing top-quality organic tea.

Established on virgin soil and grown following Masanobu Fukuoka’s “natural farming” method, Teatulia is the only tea garden in Bangladesh to be USDA certified organic and the only garden we know of that has approached tea cultivation this way.

At Teatulia we:

Do virtually no tilling, weeding, etc.

Develop the soil with cover crops and mulch

Utilize water bodies & herbal shade trees to restore the eco-balance to the area

Use only natural pest & weed controls

Nourish the land with bio-fertilizers

Protect wildlife

Process the tea in bio-gas plants

SUSTAINABLE

Yes, it’s Organic. But that’s just the beginning. Our approach to farming is truly revolutionary and very different from what any other tea-grower is doing (to our knowledge). In the Teatulia gardens, we have implemented “natural farming” practices espoused by the Japanese Master Masanobu Fukuoka, resulting in a closed-loop eco and social system. We use no pesticides, machinery or unnatural irrigation in the cultivation of our teas – we trust mother nature to establish the perfect balance. Consequently, eight years since its inception, our “virgin” garden, developed on fallow land, is now a thriving ecosystem teeming with once endangered Flora and Fauna.”

My Experience:

You guys, I’m pretty hyped on tea right now. So, here’s another Teatulia experience I’d like to share with you. I’m thankful to be an ambassador for this brand (just a fancy way of saying–I genuinely love what they are doing and want more people to know about them).

Here’s what makes this teas different and why you would look to them to ramp up your health:

Neem:

Teeth + Gum Health + Overall Cleansing

Detoxing and cleansing are two words that we’ve all heard at some point. They are crucial to overall health because a clean body is a thriving body. A body that accrued a toxic build up will experience slacking performance across the board. This can manifest itself in poor sleep, low energy, issues with integumentary system (hair + skin + nails), moodiness and chronic illness. The upside is that if you regularly perform detoxifying + cleansing protocols (like drinking this tea), you can prevent a lot of that and calibrate your body to be a beaming conglomerate of bumping energy.

Tulsi:

Adaptogen (Helps body cope with stress)

Stressors surround us every. single. day. What we CAN control is how beefy we make our immune response + body’s resiliency in order to deal with this stress. Pretty cool that we can put things into our body that help diminish the negative effects of stress.

Black Tea

Brain Function + Memory

Commonly and anciently (sure, that’s a word), black tea is used as the base for brewing kombucha, a fermented + naturally effervescent tea that aids digestions and boasts probiotics and gut-healing benefits.

Black tea is neat because it ramps up + stimulates brain function and contains half the amount of caffeine than a cup of coffee. This makes it the perfect compliment to that morning cup of coffee (think: mid-day tea break!)

Drinking these teas makes me feel: Naturally energized + balanced + detoxified + clean inside + ready to perform + peppy. Yep. Gimme mo-of-that!

Their instagram account is my particular favorite; you can find them @teatuliateas!

Gr3en Organic Energy Drink Review

Gr3en Energy Drink

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

About Gr3en:

“GR3EN is Pure. Organic. Power. Our philosophy is simple: supercharge with superfoods. Powered by green tea, coconut water, and kale, GR3EN gives a clean energy boost you can feel. It’s the perfect pick-me-up when you first wake up, need a lift, hit the gym, or hit the wall at work.

GR3EN has the caffeine equivalent of a cup of coffee, but combines the health benefits of coconut water, green tea and kale juice in one can.

GREEN TEA

The original caffeinated beverage. Traditional Chinese medicine links green tea to many health benefits. It’s been used to boost energy and focus, rev up metabolism, relieve headaches, and much more.

COCONUT WATER

A healthy, natural source of hydration that’s been popular in the tropics for centuries. Loaded with micronutrients, enzymes, and essential electrolytes, the water of young green coconuts is often referred to as nature’s ultimate sports drink.

KALE (KING OF GREENS)

Kale may seem like a hot new trend, but it actually dates back to the Middle Ages in Europe. It’s a powerful antioxidant loaded with too much good stuff to list. Just GOOGLE kale and see what you come up with…the hype is real.

CARBONATED KALE?

We’ll be honest, people don’t know what to expect when we say “carbonated kale”. But, they are pleasantly surprised when they take a sip. GR3EN is a refreshing lightly carbonated organic beverage that infuses coconut water and green tea with kale so your taste buds aren’t overpowered by the flavor of kale. We did many taste tests to get GR3EN just right.

My Thoughts:

In the world of energy drinks, these are pretty much the bomb-diggity. I say this because they have a very clean ingredient list, they’re certified organic and they utilize healthy superfoods like green tea, coconut water and kale. They’re not full of toxic junk, rather they actually pack a nutrient punch along with the (naturally occurring) caffeine content.

I found these Gr3en drinks to have an interesting and enjoyable flavor. They are like a zippy, zesty soda with a coconutty, green twist. The flavor actually really works!

My little issues with the drinks are that they list “natural flavors” (what’s that?) and they contain about 15g of sugar per drink. This is handy if I am mid-marathon and need quick fuel via sugar. However, on a day to day basis, I aim to limit sugar. Thus, these drinks would not be my go-to. I would rather reach for a low-in-sugar green juice.

To sum up my thoughts: these Gr3en energy drinks are an excellent upgrade and alternative to traditional energy drinks–there’s truly no comparison. So, if you’re looking for a quick boost or electrolyte replenishment, I’d say give these drinks a go!

Recipe: How to Make Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof Coffee

Have you heard of this? Bulletproof coffee is becoming increasingly more prevalent–as it should. Without diving-head-first into the boat loads of science behind these ingredients and the synergy that exists between them, I’ll give you the…

Semi-basic run down for why bulletproof coffee can take your coffee routine to the next level & a few tips on making your own:

  • Improves your mental clarity
  • Slows the assimilation of caffeine and fats in your body, making them more filling & giving you sustained energy versus just a quick boost.
  • Coupling the coffee with fats like grass fed butter, MCT oil (you can also use palm oil or coconut oil) improves the satiating effect of the drink and the natural caffeine content of the coffee bean helps make the fatty acids more readily available for absorption and energy use in the body.
  • Laird describes this robust drink as one that will give you “a whole new focus.”
  • The presence of omega-3 fatty acids in the butter and oils help reduce inflammation in the body by decreasing triglyceride levels.
  • Make sure to choose a coffee blend that is organic (preferably a dark or espresso roast, as those often contain less acid.
  • You can make this completely vegan and dairy free just by using the MCT oil, coconut oil and/or palm oil.

My interest in bulletproof coffee has existed for a while now–initially prompted by this video by one of my main professional-athlete-inspirers (surfing legend, fitness & nutrition guru), Laird Hamilton:

In this video you can see how Laird does it (with his volleyball extraordinaire wife, Gabby Reece, filming the video).

Here is the overall picture of the bulletproof coffee recipe.

“Bulletproof Coffee

  • 1 tbsp grass-fed butter
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup coffee

Laird’s Superpowered Bulletproof Coffee

  • 1 tbsp grass-fed butter
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp red palm oil
  • 1 tsp MCT oil
  • 1 cup coffee.”

A few notes on why Laird’s is superpowered:

-MCT oil (medium chain triglyceride oil) is a mega-condensed version of coconut oil, making the health benefits more intense.

-He uses a range of oils to diversify the nutrient content he is absorbing.

Run On Organic’s Recipe of Bulletproof Coffee:

(created with inspiration from many!)

*The addition of cinnamon was largely inspired by a local juice company, who makes their own Bulletproof Coffee, which they call “Upgrade Coffee.” Check them out: Simple Science Juices.

No exact measuring here! Everything is approximate.

Instructions here are minimal:

  • Simply combine all ingredients (sans coffee) in your coffee cup.
  • Brew your coffee as usual, separately.
  • When finished, pour the hot coffee into your cup to combine all of the ingredients.
  • The heat from the coffee will liquify the oils and help everything to combine.
  • Stir & ENJOY!

I’ve loaded up that list with the links to all of the products that I used (no affiliation to them).

Have you ever made your own bulletproof coffee? I’d love to hear about it. Happy Brewing!
