Navitas Naturals: Chili Lime Coconut Chips & Cacao Hemp Almonds Review

Navitas Naturals

Overall Rating: images

Here on ROO, I write a whole stinkin’ lot about superfoods. This is because I truly believe in them. I live it,
I love it and I’ve seen the impact that they’ve had on my overall health.

Navitas Naturals is one of the superfood brands that I look to when I’m stocking up on the good stuff. Their quality is always excellent and I can expect to get organic ingredients from them (and the majority of the time, they are raw, too–the coconut chips are an exception). It’s such a neat thing to have a “go-to” brand like this one that you can look to with trust that they’ll provide an incredible product that doesn’t sacrifice quality for profit.

Not only is Navitas Naturals a leader in clean superfoods, but they are also a favorite of mine in regards to taste. They are masters at mixing several nutrient-rife foods/ingredients and creating a truly decadent, satisfying and rich flavor profile. I find myself turning the bag upside down to get every last morsel!

The way these chips could improve is it they were optimized for digestion (raw & sprouted, preferably). These snacks would not be considered “raw” as some heat and/or light toasting is used in creating these snacks. This is done to add a crispy, roasted flavor. However, nutrient-wise, I don’t think you’re getting the biggest bang for your buck, so to speak.

Chili Lime Coconut Chips

About:

“Chile Lime Coconut Chips are made by toasting premium coconut slices at low temperatures to create a rich buttery flavor and unique chewy crunch. These organic “Handfuls of Goodness” are a good source of energy, fiber and healthy fats that tame hunger. Chile Lime Coconut Chips are more than just a satisfying snack – try them on salad, in curry, with trail mix or wherever your culinary creativity takes you!

The chewy coconut in this snack is a good source of energy, fiber and healthy fats. It also contains minerals such as iron. Coconut is well known for its content of medium chain triglycerides (MCT) – healthy fats that are burned quickly by the body for energy and are not stored as fat. In particular, coconut contains lauric acid, a MCT that is known to offer many potential health benefits.”

Cacao Hemp Almonds

About:

“This chocolaty mix combines magnesium rich cacao and crunchy almonds together to deliver a new level of nutrition and flavor. These dark cacao almonds provide impressive amounts of protein and healthy fats from the almonds and hemp for a rich flavorful crunch.

Our line of Superfood+ snacks combines superfoods with nutrient rich nuts to make it easier than ever for people to gain the essential nutrition they need to power through a busy day. Grab a bag of Cacao Hemp Almonds and go!

This snack combines three superfoods in one delicious bite. Almonds are rich in healthy fats, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Cacao has been enjoyed for its healthy and invigorating properties in South American cultures for thousands of years. Cacao powder is a delicious dark chocolate source of antioxidants, magnesium, iron and fiber. Hemp seeds contain all of the essential amino acids, plenty of omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids and are also a good source of fiber, chlorophyll, vitamins and minerals. Hemp is also eco-friendly – it’s one of the most sustainable crops on earth!”

My Thoughts:

Holy freaking awesome superfood flavor goodness. That’s the best way to describe these two bags of heaven.

Navitas Naturals is one of my favorite sources to stock up on superfoods. The majority of their products are raw, while all of them are certified organic. Their standards for quality are up there–& they’ve earned a place on my “go-to” list for that reason. Navitas Naturals is also a very accessible brand, as you can find their products in Whole Foods, Natural Grocers & various other health food stores & markets.

Not only do they make big bags of superfoods like cacao, maca and goji berries, but they’ve concocted delicious & nutritious blends like these that are satisfying and good for you. The Chili Lime Coconut Chips are intensely savory & mouth-watering, with a zip from the chili lime flavor. They make the perfect healthy substitute for traditional potato chips. Being a hemp & cacao fanatic, I absolutely loved the Cacao Hemp Almonds. The bittersweet flavor of the cacao, the earthy taste of the hemp and the rich nutty flavor of the lightly-roasted almonds combine perfectly. I could eat the whole bag of each of these in one sitting. So tasty! (and guilt-free!)

The only thing I find myself wanting to improve with these snacks is that I wish they were raw. When I shop, I intentionally buy and often pay extra for raw coconut chips and raw almonds–this is to insure that I’m getting the biggest nutritional bang for my buck, so to speak. Thus, I find myself wanting these to be raw, even though the roasted flavor is indeed tasty. That said–nutrition is and will always remain top priority to me. Organic & raw is my gold standard.

ProBar Organic, Gluten Free Nutrition Bar Review: Part 2

Pro Bar

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I immensely enjoyed sampling Pro Bar’s “Bite” bars prior to this goodie bundle. You can check out my thoughts on those bars here: Bite Bar Review. They are incredibly delicious! I also appreciate that Pro Bars are 70% raw, as well as organic.

My eyes got really big when I opened this assorted box of Pro Bar awesomeness. I especially go bonkers for their Base protein bars. They taste good, they’re more macro balanced than most nutrition bars and they pack a good punch of protein.

I see the Fuel bars as more of an intra-workout snack boost for when I need a source of carbohydrates that my body can quickly tap into. I

The Meal bars are perfect to pack in my gym bag when I need a well-rounded, convenient “meal” at my fingertips when I’m leaving the gym. They’re satisfying and make me feel like I’ve ingested enough to tide me over until I get home and have the kitchen to prepare in.

The Bolt energy chews are not something that I see as a necessity in my daily routine, but I did recently find them super handy to hand out to the players on my 12-year-old elite volleyball team mid-tournament. They loved that they resembled candy (except they’re worlds healthier in reality), gave them a boost and tasted yummy. I can see myself taking these with me for a mid-run refuel for a longer race (at least half marathon length), I just don’t do that as often as I used to. I’m more often in the gym lifting and doing higher intensity circuits to stay lean and strong. These chews would combat the fact that I try to limit extra sugar, so I would only consume them as needed during a grueling, endurance workout or race.

I totally dig on the tee & water bottle they threw in! I’m impressed with their range of products and suggest you give them a try if you are apprehensive about bars–the flavor & quality will get you on board!

ClifBar Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs Review

Clif Bar Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

My Thoughts:

Clif Bar is a brand that I continually work with & have always had gratitude for–as they’re committed to using organic ingredients. Our little blondie adores the kid’s clif bars and we see them as a go-to to satisfy her need for quick fuel and replenishment on the go.

I was so intriued by these fuel packs when they came out! Having healthy fuel that I can take with me was important in the last several months as I was traveling frequently coaching volleyball–and has continued to be important as I commute to and from work everyday & always bring my own snacks & shakes to supplement the green juice or salad I buy for lunch at a local spot. I don’t believe you have to give up healthy & sensible eating altogether when you’re traveling–it just requires a little bit of preparation.

The idea of these packs is excellent–as they truly taste like real mini-meals. All of them taste delectable in their own right. The pizza margherita was particularly interesting, & I enjoyed having the pizza flavor in baby food form (surprisingly).

I love the organic ingredients, the portability and the flavor of Clif Bar’s new Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs. My only scrutiny is that they’re not raw. Raw food doesn’t have as long of a shelf life–I get it from a profit standpoint. However, I’m exponentially more interested in supporting and buying products that put the nutrition aspect as top priority. Fueling my body the best way I know how will always be the major focus of my self-care. To me, that means as much organic & raw food as possible.

They’re off to a fantastic start by using non-gmo, organic ingredients. But, my enthusiasm will be elevated if Clif Bar comes out with some raw fuel. Maybe organic, raw, plant based protein? I’d do a cartwheel for sure 🙂

Oh! & I thought it was major cool that they included organic oregano, basil & tomato seeds from High Mowing seeds–just in time for the start of spring gardening!

My Thoughts:

If you want lots of yummy flavor & fuel that you can feel pretty good about eating, Nugo’s got it. These bars are chock full of organic ingredients. Talk about a GIANT leap up from your typical snack bar.

If I had to pick one, the double dark chocolate bar takes the cake in regards to overall taste & enjoyment. I love the health boosting qualities of chocolate (when in its pure form & without additives)

Here are a few tweaks I would make with these bars:

-Lower sugar content

-More raw ingredients (like raw cacao)

-Less or no use of soy

-Specificity on what “natural flavors” are

Here is what these bars have that many bars do not:

-A laundry list of organic ingredients (these are Certified Organic bars)

-All non-gmo ingredients

-A decent macro ratio (5g fat/26g carbs/10g protein)

In my pantry, I see these bars as a healthy treat/snack for our 6 year old and a candy bar replacement for me. I like to keep my sugar intake at bay, thus, I won’t be eating several of these a day. However, a big bravo for the use of organic ingredients. I find myself looking for more raw, though! I recommend them to someone looking to make a healthier swap in their junky-snack routine, one that will provide them with fat, carbs & protein.
